Connecting Communities through the belly
3 things became very evident as I campaigned to become an elected official
in the Coconut Grove community of Miami, Florida.
1) People were more likely to listen to you if their immediate needs were
being met. FEEDING PEOPLE WAS NOT ONLY A WAY TO GATHER A
CROWD, IT WAS A WAY TO SHOW CARE AND COMPASSION.
2) The three Cs wont let you down; Cheese, Chicken, Cornbread
3) Soda brands cause division but everyone loves lemonade.
With these simple learned ingredients I started crafting a recipe to unify and
feed people, not agendas. I sought others that were passionate about
cooking as well and set out to create pop ups, events and farmer markets
where people were the interest, not necessarily profits. These moments of
prayer, reflection and research are the breeding ground of Colored Only Cafe
